Ellerslie Students - Janet Runkles Bio

wife   |   nana   |   Assistant to the DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, ELLERSLIE MISSION SOCIETY

Around campus, you’ll most likely see me getting to know students or working with the orphans in some capacity.

If you’re out and about Windsor, you’ll probably find me on my way to see the grandkids or helping Leslie with a project.

Whenever I can, I like to steal away for a walk, prayer, or coffee with a friend.

Right now, I’m reading The School of Christ by T. Austin Sparks and Dietrich Bonhoeffer: A Biography by Eberhard Bethge.

The funny things Hudson, Harper, Kip, & Avy do make me smile!

When I was a little girl, I thought I would become a ballerina.  Instead I became a teacher.  I taught elementary school for several years before starting a family.

Something I’m most excited about for you as a student is... growing in your relationship with Jesus Christ and becoming all He has created for you to be.

My favorite aspect about the Ellerslie environment is... the sense of peace and God's presence as you walk onto campus.

A historical  Christian character that could be my replacement here at Ellerslie would be... Since much of my role at Ellerslie so far has been practical like getting the catering set up, the dorms ready, shopping for furniture, curtains and accessories, decorating and setting up for banquets and special events and decorating parts of the children's wing I guess someone like Martha would be a good replacement. I hate to admit my tendency toward being a Martha but its true.  I do long to still my mind and be more of a Mary.

The funniest thing that's happened to me at Ellerslie is... While preparing for the graduation barbecue, I struggled to get the large patio umbrellas in the car and transported to the campus. They were long and stuck all the way to the windshield which I had to look around just to drive. Then I struggled, grunted and groaned to manhandle them out of the car and into place.  When cleaning up, one of the students came over to help as I began the process all over again.  He just looked at me then quickly took them apart for easy transport. I was dumbfounded. I had no idea they would come apart. I felt a little silly and knew I had been a funny sight for no good reason.

My number one highlight from the current/past Ellerslie term is... returning to the campus from the airport with the children from Haiti and seeing all of the students with welcome sign, hearing their cheers, and words of welcome for these precious children. After such a spiritual battle to get them here it was an incredibly moving experience.
