Ellerslie Students - Mike Hahn Bio

meet Mike Husband   |   Executive director, his little feet

Around campus, you’ll most likely find me walking with my beautiful wife, Christa.

Whenever I can, I like to steal away and work out.

Right now, I’m reading the Bible.

If you’re out and about Windsor, you’ll probably find me getting some exercise.

Tea or coffee? (in case you want to treat the staff)

Venti Mocha Frapaccino.

Seeing a child laugh always make me smile.

When I as 8 I thought I was going to play in the NBA.

Recently, I’ve been contemplating which bus to buy.

Something I’m most excited about for you as a student is the opportunity to seek Jesus Christ in an incredible environment like Ellerslie.

What is one of your favorite hymns or spiritual songs?

My favorite spiritual song is "You Are My All in All."  At the age of 15 I encountered the Holy Spirit while singing this song.  I had recently dedicated my life to follow Christ and soon after went to a Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp in Estes Park, CO.  There were over 500 other high school students there.  I realized for the first time that I can worship God through singing and know that His Spirit is present.  This is one of the few songs, that moves me no matter how many times I have heard it.  "Jesus lamb of God Worthy is Your Name."

What has been the most significant physical challenge of your life?

The most significant physical challenge of my life was playing college basketball.  My freshman year of college I thought I was in great physical condition.  But when our practices began in October (and after 5 days in a row of long practices and a popular wind sprint drill called "super 17") I was physically exhausted.  One evening as I lay on my bed exhausted my roommate (who was not a Christian) said "read Hebrews 12:11".  I quickly opened up my Bible and read "No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it."  This verse brought life to my body.  I was understanding for the first time in my life the benefits of self discipline.  I memorized this verse and through the rest of my years playing basketball I was strengthened and encouraged to get into the best physical condition of my life.  Because I knew later on it would produce in me a harvest of righteousness and peace.

What has been a significant verse for you this past month?

Job 29:12-16 "...because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist him.  The man who was dying blessed me; I made the widow's heart sing. I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban. I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. I was a father to the needy; I took up the case of the stranger."

Last year I studied the life of Job...specifically Job chapter 29 after reading Eric Ludy's "The Bravehearted Gospel."   When my wife, Christa, and I were in Haiti this past year, we had the opportunity to minister to a blind sickly widow named Maudeline and her precious 4 year old son, Donaldson. On numerous occasions we have walked Maudeline and Donaldson home from church events, because when we do not walk her home, little four year old Donalson leads her, by the hand through the village, with fast motorcycles and trucks zooming by, about one mile to her home.  God has allowed us to literally be "the eyes to the blind."

I found out that Maudeline was in need of a bed...she and Donaldson had been sleeping on the dirty, rat invested ground of their small little shack.  Soon after finding out about the need, I brought a new mattress and bed frame to Maudeline and Donaldson.  As I entered her little home I witnessed her raising her hands up and praising God as she sang over and over again, "Glory Adios!" which translates to "Praise God!"  Just the simple gift of receiving a bed, brought her so much happiness and joy!  Instantly God brought Job 29:13b to my heart, "I made the widow's heart sing."

After the earthquake, the children's home we had come to serve alongside of, had brought in many children wounded from the earthquake.  Some with amputations, others with severe broken bones.  I was asked numerous times each day to help carry wounded children from place to place.  Every time I lifted one of the precious little broken bodies, I could hear God whispering to me..."you are being my feet to the lame."

Overwhelmed one evening by God's display of His power working in and through me, I quickly opened up the Bible Job 29 and thanked God for showing me the joy that comes from serving Him.  God allowed me to live out the life he shows through Job 29...being the eyes to the blind...causing the widow's heart to sing...being feet to the lame.  These memories resound a stirring deep within me, to continue reaching out and being available for whatever God wants to do in and through me.
